Environmental Justice

Our environmental justice program provides a framework for congregational study, action, and reflection in response to environmental challenges, empowering us to take meaningful action on climate change. By participating in these initiatives, we demonstrate our commitment to ecological responsibility and community resilience, creating a legacy of sustainability for generations to come. These efforts not only advance our goal of promoting environmental justice but also empower our congregation to take an active role in shaping a sustainable future.

Environmental Justice

Environmental justice efforts are integral to aiding the Building Our Future Team by offering ideas, expertise, and hands-on assistance for various sustainability projects, including plans to build a solar garden and participating in the UUA’s Green Sanctuary Program. The solar garden project is a community solar energy installation that allows multiple participants to benefit from renewable energy, aiming to reduce our carbon footprint and serve as a model for environmental stewardship. Leveraging the diverse skills and knowledge of our congregation members, we address various aspects of this initiative, from technical design and feasibility studies to education and community outreach. Simultaneously, our commitment to the Green Sanctuary Program involves a comprehensive approach to sustainability that includes energy conservation, waste reduction, and promoting sustainable lifestyles within our congregation.

First UU Led Programs

Some members of the Building Our Future Green Energy team and Environmental Justice folks here at First UU are exploring certification of the Green Sanctuary Program from the UUA. If you are interested in joining our Green Sanctuary Team working on Environmental Justice and the initiatives toward clean energy especially where it concerns our new property, please email Shelly at justice@uurochmn.org.
